About the Award

 

The Award’s Establishment

 

The King Abdullah II Award for Excellence in Government Performance and Transparency was established by a Royal Decree in 2002 to develop and improve the performance of the ministries and public institutions in serving the Jordanian community and investors by increasing the awareness of distinguished performance concepts, quality and transparency and highlighting the exceptional efforts of the public sector institutions whilst presenting their accomplishments in the development of their systems and services. The Award is considered the highest award of excellence for the public sector on the national level.

The Award aims to enrich the culture of excellence in the public sector, which is based on three main pillars: customer focus, results orientation and transparency.

 

The Award’s Objective

 
  • The King Abdullah II Award for Excellence In Government Performance and Transparency aims to enhance the role of the public sector in serving the Jordanian community with all its sectors and the investment community by promoting awareness of the concepts of comprehensive quality administration and distinguished performance, and to highlight the exceptional efforts of the public sector and present its accomplishments in the area of developing its systems and services. The King Abdullah II Award for Excellence In Government Performance and Transparency is considered the highest award of excellence for the public sector on the national level.

  • The Award aims to create qualitative transformation and to develop the performance of government and institutions in serving Jordanian citizens and investors, as well as to enhance positive competitiveness among government departments and institutions through promoting awareness of the concepts of distinguished performance, innovation and quality, and entrenching the culture of excellence that is founded on three international pillars for best practice.

  • The Award also aims to instill the exchange of exceptional expertise between the Jordanian institutions and the sharing of their success stories in the area of successful administrative practices leading to providing the best for Jordanian citizens and local and foreign investors. The main objective is founded on guaranteeing that the government sector undertakes duties and tasks assigned to it in the best manner and with high levels of quality, efficiency and professionalism. Thus, the King Abdullah II Award is a reflection of the appreciation of the higher leadership of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for government departments, institutions and employees that distinguish themselves through their performance, productivity, services, projects, programs, plans and work methods.

The Award’s Characteristics

 
Each ministry or institution receives an evaluation report about its performance that assists them in adopting the Award’s standards for checking their systems, performance, employees’ performance and their relations with customers in an objective and measurable manner. The most important characteristic of the Award is that the winner would be considered an example to be followed and a good model in civil society.

    • First category: the distinguished leading or supervising employee award

    The Pillars of The King Abdullah II Award for Excellence in Government Performance and Transparency

    Focusing on: the service receiver, focusing on results and working in a transparent manner make up modern governments’ three best practice bases governments. The roots of these foundations are practically based on adopting suitable public sector practices leading to effective performance. Globally, governments apply many self-improvement strategies while focusing on these three foundations.

    In addition, the Award is based on five elements that must be reflected in these three foundations, and these elements are: leadership, operations, individuals, knowledge and finance.

The mechanism of The King Abdullah II Award for Excellence in Government Performance and Transparency

 

Board of Trustees

 
  • When establishing the Award, His Majesty King Abdullah II appointed His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Al-Hussein as chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees.
  • The Board of Trustees is appointed by Royal Decree.

The Assessment Parties
The Assessment is carried out in line with objective international standards by experts. The results must reflect the reality that everyone feels. The Award is supported by workshops, seminars, conferences and qualifying programs for participating parties. The correctness of information provided in the reports is verified by contracting a neutral party to undertake the role of the Mystery Shopper.
